How to Verify Any WA Contractor

Step 1: Check L&I

Go to secure.lni.wa.gov/verify and enter the contractor's name or license number. You'll see license status, bond amount, and insurance status.

Step 2: Request COI

Ask for a Certificate of Insurance (COI) naming you as an additional insured. A legitimate contractor can provide this within 24 hours. If they can't, walk away.

Step 3: Get a Written Contract

Never start work without a written contract that includes scope, payment schedule, timeline, and change order process. Verbal agreements are not enforceable in WA for contractor disputes.
